Gateway offers baptisms only a few times a year due to weather restraints. To take advantage of these limited opportunities, Kids Quest offers a baptism class before every baptism. Gateway’s baptism allows for people to plan, but also allows for people to respond to God if he prompts them to be baptized that day. Seeing baptisms is very healthy for our kids. It prompts them to ask questions such as, “why are they getting baptized?” “Why do we even do that?” How can I get baptized?” This allows for great conversations about faith and what it means to follow Christ.
We have many kids who decide that they want to get baptized the day of our baptism. It’s not a bad thing at all; however, our recommendation is that they attend our baptism class beforehand. Again, baptism is a big deal, something they do after they make their own decision to follow Christ. We like to talk with parents and the kids to make sure they understand this decision and make sure their motivation is to get baptized because they’ve surrendered their lives to following him, but because it looks fun. It is fun though, especially when done when both the parents and children fully understand what is happening.
We have another baptism coming up very soon.
The next baptism is scheduled on June 14th. It is after the Deepen service at our McNeil campus and after the 180 service at our South Campus (these are in the afternoon). If you’re interested in more information about baptism and why we do it, click here.
