McNeil Campus News

Okay, I wrote last week that we finally had all our room age ranges set and we probably wouldn’t need to mess with them for a while. Can we pretend I didn’t say that?

February 1st is the big day. A very big day.

Who will be affected?

EVERYONE!

Over the past several months I’ve been slowly making minor changes to room age ranges, check-in structure and many other things. I have a very strong vision of where we’re headed and we’ve been going that way step by step.

After talking to my staff this last week, we’ve made a decision to just go ahead and make all the remaining changes right now and be done with it. So, that’s what we’re going to do. Trust me, we’re not making all these changes for fun. There are a lot of things behind the scenes that we can’t do due to the way check-in was originally set up. We have a powerful check-in system and database that will allow us to better connect with families and we’ve barely tapped into it. These changes will allow us to really take advantage of connecting with kids and their families. So, please be patient just a little longer and this will all be behind us. :)

What is coming?

Early Childhood:
The Backyard won’t see too many changes as we’ve done most everything we needed to do. We will be opening the final 5’s and K room out there on February 1st, so a few kids will move from Treehouse Trail into the new room. We’ve been experimenting with a load balancing tool with Beach Boulevard and Amazon Avenue and we’ve been amazed at how well it works. So, we’ll be initiating the load balancing tool with several more rooms. So starting on February 1st, the following rooms will have identical age ranges:

  • Treehouse Trail and The New Room (we’ll announce the name next week)
  • Beach Boulevard and Amazon Avenue
  • Kids Kingdom and Asteroid Alley
  • Tumbleweed Trail and Little Lagoon
  • Bubble Babies and Grasshopper Grove

That means the age ranges for most of these rooms will change. Rather than a child promoting through 10 different rooms over a period of four and a half years, they’ll only promote through 5. This allows children to be in their rooms longer (less change especially for those dealing with separation anxiety) were they can build stronger relationships with the leaders in those rooms.

Elementary:
Currently all elementary aged kids check into a grade. Now they’ll check into a grade and gender. So, they’ll be checking into 1st Grade Boys or 3rd Grade Girls. We’ll do the best we can to make sure the system checks your child into the correct room by default, but be prepared to double check. Once they check in the first time, the system will remember the correct grade/gender the next time you attend.

Well, that’s it. I’ll have more information next week. I just wanted to give you a little extra time to prepare. I don’t anticipate any major problems, but know that there will be some changes.

  1. [...] Last week I wrote about the changes. Most kids will be affected this Sunday. Many will promote to new rooms, others will just see changes to their check-in name tags. However, we want you to be prepared. Take five minutes and read to find out what is changing. [...]
