No summer camp this year

No summer camp this year

Some of you may have noticed that we never opened up registration for summer camp. That was somewhat intentional. We were a little late in getting our registration put together, but before we launched registration we got several red flags. I’ve probably gotten 20 or so email about camp. The the 20, 19 were asking for scholarship information. My intention was to take several kids on scholarship this year, but I had a feeling that more kids would be needing assistance than I’d be able to help. So, a few weeks ago we make the call and canceled the 2009 camp.

This wasn’t the only reason. I finally hired Cathy Harwick as the elementary director in February. Three weeks later we began the deepen service. Our focus has been almost exclusively on getting our Sunday programs running well and being well staffed. This took a higher priority to camp.

I hate that we’re not having a camp to go to, but we’ll get something in place for next year. In the mean time, we do plan to offer one or two alternative events this summer. We will keep you posted on what those are as they get scheduled.

I am very disappointed. All the other churches offer summer camp, or at least vacation bible school. I looked forward to this as a child and I expected that my child would enjoy it as well.
